THE FEMALE VETERINARIAN IN OUR SOCIETY TODAY.
Assalamu alaikum wa rahamatullah wa barakatuh,
Bismillahir Rahmanir rahim.
I have always wanted to write something regarding our noble profession
in our society today, but then I realised that, that something, will be to write about this topic, firstly I want to briefly give a detailed explanation about the noble profession I mentioned above. It is a discipline that requires 6years of dedication and rigorous training, full of challenges which involves dealing with all sort of animals and trying to relieve their distress, these activities all have a physical and psychological impact on a person.
Although it is a well known phenomenon that what a man can do a woman can do better. But in this case, sincerely, trying to do better isn't an easy task. As apart from the intellectual aspect, a lot of physical activity is required, apart from that, the age-long ambition and dream of being a Medical Doctor before enrolling into the university are said to be shattered the moment your admission letter shows Veterinary Medicine, which is not recognised as the society at large tends to look down on us as ladies wasting precious time to study a 6years' course which is of no value (or so they think). I want to use this medium to tell my other sisters that the societal misconception of being a Vet shouldn't deter you but rather inspire you to set your priorities right, by developing interest in what you are doing, understand what it entails and make it a second nature, aim well and remain focused, know who you are and what you want for that is what makes you different and unique in your own special way.
Challenges are bound to be encountered but that doesn't mean you will give up but rather persevere, for nobody is promising you it will be easy and when you feel like giving up, remember you have to prove to those neighbours that mockingly refer to you as The Goat Doctor, be creative and don't be scared to explore for what lies ahead will always be a mystery. Try to counterbalance your academics and all the other things that need to be done as a lady, don't let your academics to completely overshadow other crucial aspects of your life, spark up your life from time to time with interesting activities, don't be a redundant Bokometer, try as much as possible to obtain Al-Ilm of different areas, do not impoverish yourself of knowledge by shying away from interaction in the name of being a devout lady, as lack of interaction deprives one of valuable information. Remain decent, know where to draw the lines for not only will you be a Vet tomorrow but also a mother, a wife, an aunt anyone can look up to, as you can't be the epitome of success anyone will look up to if you can't play your feminine role efficiently. And most importantly remain the pious Muslimah by fearing & worshipping your Rabb(Allah SWT) accordingly, which is our primary goal in this Dunya, remember pleasing Him is a priority, rather than trying to please His creations (people). Just be yourself and don't compromise trying to contribute to the immediate society as much as you can and make people realize the importance of veterinarians and hopefully the misconception of the society will be changed with time, in Shaa Allah. May Allah SWT continue to guide us and forgive our shortcomings (ameen).
Bissalam.
